Dimensions artist profiles: Hengameh Kamal Rad

IMG_7087Name:  Hengameh Kamal Rad

Medium:  pottery, ceramics and paper clay

Background:  I was introduced to pottery and ceramics in Iran about 20 years ago.

How long have you been a sculptor?  20 years

Why did you start sculpting?  Since 2011 I started working with paper clay sculptures at Dempsey Community Center where my teacher Maria Mask encouraged me to continue my passion and find my style.

IMG_7114What inspires you?  Working with clay lets me explore the complexity of simple matters (phenomena) and duality of the same subjects; in some of my works I can feel unity in duality. I have also realized that we are all connected although it may appear that we are not; if we looked long at humans and nature we can see more similarities than differences. Further, I believe there exists a connection with all things in the universe.

Which sculptures will you be exhibiting at Dimensions 2013?  Two sculptures in paper clay and oil patina will be shown at this exhibition.
