DIMENSIONS 2015 – Meet the Artists: Garry Bowes

Meet the artist who created the beautiful sculpture on our poster,

Garry Bowes – Sculptural Woodturnerlp-1

How long have you been creating? I have employed my skills as a research technologist to create wood art.   The tools I fashion allow me to create unique sculpture which, for over twenty years, has been purchased internationally.   Many pieces have been gifted by the Canadian Government to numerous heads-of-state including Queen Elizabeth and Emperor Akihito.

What inspires you to do what you do?  Our human species has totally mistreated the natural environment.   I love trees and have a passion for wood as an artistic medium.   The inherent beauty in this wonderful material is a reminder to respect and protect the world around us.

Artist Statement                                                                                                                        As a sculptor, I like to think of my role as a collaboration with a greater artist, namely Mother Nature.   In this collaboration, I try to combine the story that the wood has to tell, with my own artistic statement.   I speak for the tree as well as myself and, in a sense, give a second life to the tree.

The words Garry and Bowes should be on the same line, with no gap before Garry. (they are separate on my screen.) Maybe put them on one line with Sculptural Woodturner…Another line for How long…etc.
