Check out Polymer Clay Figurative Artist, Maria Saracino and her realistic yet whimsical characters.
How long have you been creating? I’ve been working in this medium for 20 years. I discovered polymer clay in the mid 1990’s when it was just beginning to be used as a fine art medium. I have an art background in graphic design and worked in advertising for the first half of my career.
What inspires you to do what you do? I love creating. It’s a basic physical need for me. I love challenging myself not only with my art but also on a business level. It’s extremely satisfying when my audience connects with one of my culptures on a personal or familiar level.
Artist Statement I search for those moments that bring peace and comfort to our everyday lives. My art reflects those moments. Through sculpture I capture candid snapshots of life’s simple pleasures. I want my audience to feel the connection to their own experience. My work is realistic with a touch of whimsy. I sculpt in polymer clay and use textiles, wood and resin to complete my sculptures. My biggest influence is Norman Rockwell.
