Don’t miss seeing the incredible marble sculptures by mixed-media painter and sculptor, Gordon Wright.
How long have you been creating? I have a college background in printmaking and sculpture and 15 years experience at the Ottawa Hospital as a medical illustrator. My sculpture material includes concrete, fibreglass, metal, wood and stone. I was first introduced to marble about 3 years ago.
What inspires you to do what you do? I create my art as a way to express my thoughts and emotions. The idea of leaving a little of your soul for others to see and feed from … The feeling that one person may be offended by a piece and the next inspired, appeals to me.
Artist Statement I find that when working on sculptural pieces, with every strike of the hammer, or when forming in clay, new images reveal themselves. What I choose to release or not from within the medium is ever changing. The idea that you can have a different expression and feeling, just by seeing a piece of art from another angle, is what draws me to sculpt. Seeing my ideas taking form and physical space is a fruitful experience …. a spiritual release.
